Product Overview

The SRIO Optical Matrix Switch (Model: OSW-4 (D1×8)-M5-85-1U-S22-MPO) is a cutting-edge fiber optic switch designed for high-density and high-speed optical signal routing in demanding environments. At its core, it features an advanced SRIO (Serial RapidIO) switching matrix, enabling seamless and synchronized switching for applications requiring protocol-aware signal integrity. This optical switch China-manufactured unit supports 4 independent groups of 1x8 bidirectional channels, complemented by a dedicated short-circuit channel. Utilizing MPO (12-core) connectors and multimode 50/125(OM3) fiber at an 850nm wavelength, it ensures low insertion loss (≤1.5dB) and superior performance. Equipped with an LCD status display and Ethernet remote control, this SRIO optical matrix switch is the ideal solution for data center interconnects, high-speed optical transmission systems, and automated test platforms.

Key Features

·         Multi-Channel Synchronous Switching: Features 4 independent switching groups, each offering 1x8 selection capability. All channels can be triggered to switch synchronously for consistent signal routing.

·         Bidirectional Path Design: Each switching channel incorporates both transmit (Tx) and receive (Rx) optical paths, perfectly supporting full-duplex communication links.

·         High-Density Connectivity: Employs MPO (12-core) connectors to maximize port density and simplify complex cabling in rack-mounted systems.

·         Real-Time Status Monitoring: An integrated LCD screen provides an intuitive display of current channel status and system operation.

·         Remote Management & Control: Supports Ethernet remote control (TCP Client) for full configuration and status readback, enabling easy integration into network management systems.

·         Superior Optical Performance: Engineered for signal integrity with low insertion loss (≤1.5dB), high return loss (≥30dB), and excellent channel isolation (crosstalk ≥35dB).

·         Fast Switching Response: Adjacent channel switching time is ≤20ms, ensuring rapid protection switching or signal routing.

·         Low Power Consumption: The entire unit consumes <100W, promoting energy efficiency and reducing heat generation in co-located equipment.

Applications

·         Data Center Optical Interconnect: Enables rapid and flexible optical signal switching between multiple servers and storage units, enhancing data throughput and network agility.

·         High-Speed Optical Transmission Systems: Perfectly suited for switching SRIO protocol signals in industrial control, aerospace, and defense applications where high bandwidth and low latency are critical.

·         Optical Test Platforms: Acts as a core switching component in automated test equipment (ATE), allowing for multi-channel synchronous testing to improve accuracy and throughput.

·         Industrial Control Networks: Built to withstand harsh industrial environments, ensuring reliable optical signal transmission between PLCs, drives, and sensors.

·         Aerospace & Defense Electronics: Meets the stringent requirements for miniaturization and high reliability in airborne and shipboard optical communication systems.

Core Operating Principle

This fiber optic switch operates by selectively routing optical signals in the optical domain. It utilizes optical switch matrix technology to connect input ports to designated output ports based on control commands.

·         Optical Switch Matrix Architecture: The device incorporates a 1x8 switch matrix design per group. Each group contains two independent optical paths (Tx and Rx) for bidirectional signal transmission. The four groups can execute switching actions simultaneously.

·         MPO Multi-Fiber Connectivity: The MPO (12-core) connectors provide a high-density interface to the external fiber network. Different pins within the MPO connector correspond to specific channels and paths, enabling parallel transmission of multiple optical signals.

·         Electronic Control & Actuation: An onboard main control circuit receives remote commands via Ethernet. It then drives the optical switches (mechanical or MEMS-based) to physically or optically alter the light path.

·         Synchronous Switching Mechanism: Upon receiving a switch command, all 1x8 switching groups perform the same action simultaneously, guaranteeing consistency across all data links.

·         Status Monitoring & Feedback: The LCD screen and Ethernet interface provide real-time feedback on the active channels, facilitating remote diagnostics and management.

Control Command Flow:
A user sends a TCP command (e.g.,
<OSW01_OUT_03>) via a network debugging assistant. The device interprets the command, executes the optical path switch, and returns an acknowledgment (e.g., <OSW01_OK>). The entire process completes in under 20 milliseconds.
